The Argentinean woman that claims a bingo jackpot of $11 million and bingo operator Codere did not reach an agreement during a hearing that took place this week. Codere owns and operates a bingo hall where the woman hit the jackpot while playing on a slot machine.
During the hearing, the company took a stand by saying that it “will never offer more than what is fair; prizes are not subject to negotiations”. Hector Luna, Chief Executive for Codere, said: “We abide by the prizes regulations and gambling laws, which establish the maximum prizes per each machine and also the minimum and maximum wagers.”
Veronica Baena, the winner, her husband and her lawyers met the bingo hall attorneys. The woman ratified that they will “go to court” to settle the dispute and rejected the almost $13,000 offered by Codere.
On 16th October, the machine where Mrs. Baena was playing displayed a message telling her she had won a millionaire sum. But, since then, the bingo operator has pointed out that it was a mistake and has refused to pay her the prize.
