Tracy Stanhoff, Prairie Band Potawatomi National Tribal Chairwoman, confirmed that the Tribe would hold a town-hall meeting in Shabbona to explain their plans concerning the 128 acres of land they recently purchased outside of town.
“While a “Las Vegas-style” casino on the land is not one of the options being considered, a bingo parlor is”, Stanhoff added. “Next week's meeting is likely to happen at the Indian Oaks Country Club in Shabbona.”
The Tribe purchased the 128 acres of land in April for $8.84 million. The land is located in the southwest corner of University and Preserve roads. If the Prairie Band builds the bingo parlor, it would become the first American Indian enterprise in Illinois.
